Mission
Trees for Guelph enhances the
community by providing leadership in the areas of planting trees,
implementing complementary environmental projects and supporting related
education activities.
Objectives
1. Improve environmental quality through the establishment of extensive, diverse plantings and appropriate landscape management to:
- Improve air quality
- Reduce noise
- Provide for wildlife habitat
- Improve aesthetic quality
- Provide shade and reduce summer urban temperatures
- Improve water quality
- Establish a more sustainable environment
- Sequester carbon
- Counteract global climate change
2. Provide for environmental education by:
- Planting with students - learning by doing
- Publicizing our projects
- Encouraging broad private sector support
- Establishing a research component relative to methods, management techniques and evaluation of results
- Develop resource materials and programs
3. Establish a model for leadership in community environmental improvement by:
- Developing a framework for project implementation
- Encouraging broad participation by schools, youth groups, service clubs, the university, all levels of government, and the private sector
- Establish funding sources for supporting community based environmental improvement projects
